Starting Over: My Journey to a Healthier Me
Let me tell you—starting a new routine is hard. Trying to build healthier habits feels like an uphill battle, and some days, I’m all in, while the next, I have zero motivation. But with my 45th birthday just two days away, it’s time to get it together. Aging comes with its own set of challenges, but I know it doesn’t have to be a bad thing.
I’m kicking off this journey on my own, which makes it even harder because I don’t have that extra push from someone to hold me accountable. At first, I thought my teenage daughter—my little sidekick—would help me stay on track, but then I remembered: she’s a teenager. Enough said.
The Struggle is Real
My biggest challenge? Finding the time to start and stick with a routine. Like so many people, my schedule is packed. My day starts at 4:00 AM with a full-time job, followed by working on my own business. When I’m not doing that, I’m volunteering at my daughter’s school or handling everything that comes with home life. It feels like there’s never a moment to breathe, let alone work out.
But reality hit me hard at a recent doctor’s visit. I’ve been dealing with persistent pain, and on top of that, I found out my blood pressure is high—not the good kind of high. With a family history of cardiovascular issues, this was a serious wake-up call. I need to take action now because I want to be around to watch my daughter grow into the phenomenal woman I know she’ll become.
Since COVID, I’ve slipped into a routine of being less active and eating way too much—and it shows. I’ve gotten too comfortable, and let’s be honest, I’m not about to buy a whole new wardrobe just because my clothes are fitting a little too snug (that’s a discussion for another day).
Time to Make a Change
So, here I am—determined to break the cycle and commit to a healthier lifestyle. It won’t be easy, and I know there will be days when I struggle, but this is a lifelong journey, and I’m ready to take it one step at a time.
If you’ve ever struggled with starting over, know that you’re not alone. Let’s do this together—one healthy choice at a time!
