Over the years with having a kiddo in various activities, I became a very involved parent. I went from being a team mom of the basketball team, a sponsor (coach) of the cheer squad to volunteering with the band. If you have a kid or volunteer your time in school activities here is one of my go to gift ideas for a group. I have gotten so much better at my craft over the years, so good I actually now have a small business. When I look back at past crafty work I have done, all I can do is laugh. Some of them I just knew I was doing something super cute. As you can see in the pic below it was definitely made with love lol. My number 1 cute cheap gift idea for a group are picture frames. You can make it as simple as purchasing frames and putting a group photo of the kids and coach. You'll see a few examples below of my creations. Let's create!

I purchase plain wood frames from Michael's for .99 a piece and I got the basketball wood pieces (shown in above pic) from Hobby Lobby. These plain wood frames can be a very inexpensive gift to give. Paint doesn't cost much for a big bottle at all at any craft store or even Wal-Mart. I got smarter over the next few years, as I don't have the best handwriting. I got the idea to purchase letter stickers that I wanted to use for my frames. This can get a little pricey depending on your choice of stickers and how may kids you have. I had a lot of girls with the letters M, N, A and E in their name so I had to purchase way too many sticker letters but it was so worth it in the end. I purchase bows from Hobby Lobby they came in a package. I also purchase a package of wood painted footballs from Hobby Lobby. Hobby Lobby is my happy place as you can tell. My daughter hates going to Hobby Lobby with me so much I now have to trick her or she will not get in the car with me lol.

Before you begin painting be sure to place a cloth or plastic sheet underneath your frames. I used trash bags the 30 gallon ones that I already have for my own trash can. I use two coats of paint on frames and allow to dry overnight before placing my decorative items on frame. You want to lay out all your supplies that you will be using for your project. I like to do this so I won't be in the middle of gluing something and now I have to get up and grab the item and my glue is now dry. You know those glue guns the glue harden pretty quickly. Here's an example of what my process looks like. These are my trail runs after I painted the frames. I couldn't decide on the type of letters, bows or if I wanted to use the footballs on the frames or not. To help me I placed my items where I thought I would like them to give me visualization.

Things you'll need to get started are the following:

  1. wood picture frames

  2. glue gun

  3. glue sticks

  4. paint

  5. paint brush

  6. sticker letters

  7. other decorative elements you would like to use on your frame

  • Be sure to read the labels on the paint bottle to make sure you pick the right paint for your project. If you are not sure the craft stores have a chart you can follow to help you make the right decision. Craft smart paint is what I used as pictured below.

For the sticker letters I used I did not need to use any glue or tape to secure to frame. I only used my glue gun to glue on initial letter and bow to frame.

Here's my finish project! I went with a small bow in the corner. I did find some wooden initial letters on clearance at Michael's. I painted those as well with the same paint I used for frames. I didn't use any clear coat and it still looks good today. If you would like to add some type of sealer you can. There are lots of choices. Be sure to read very carefully before purchasing. I hate for you to get home and find out your sealer can't be used on wood.

The picture frame below was created with my cricut. Well, just the letters and bow. I used the collegiate font with permanent vinyl (oracel 651) and I used glitter card stock for the bow on frame. Glue gun was used for card stock bow on frame. My gift bag came out so cute I had to share with you all. Using the same glitter card stock I used for the bow I also used for the suspenders and bow for the bag. I used my paint dobber for the black buttons using black paint. You can glue or use two sided tape for the suspenders and bow on bag.
